Twitter CPL 2.0 May 24

Twitter is all about sharing information in new ways through the use of technology and it is changing the way we receive our knowledge. Since Tweets are received in real time it allows users to stay current on a number of topics. Twitter appears to me to be most valuable when used on a mobile device as opposed to a PC.

LibraryThing

I will promote this website to library customers who are avid fiction readers while working the circulation desk at Forest Lawn branch. This site is a valuable place for readers to share their books with others.

I may use this site to find out what others are reading or to read book reviews or ratings. I would probably not join this site and tag and rate my own reading.

On-line Productivity Tools

I think I'll stick to more traditional ways of using a calendar or use Outlook calendar as it is a productivity that I already have available to me. Some calendars like Scrybe seems far too complicated to use and does not appear to be upgraded on a regular basis.

Flickr & YouTube

Flickr and YouTube are very user friendly and entertaining. You can have fun with these websites and everyone gets to be a **Star**.

RSS

I had difficulty setting up RSS feeds. I would type in a URL that I knew had RSS feeds and Bloglines would tell me that the website did not subscribe to RSS feeds. I was more successful when I had Blogline open and then went to the website and clicked on the RSS feed link. I could then see the feed in my Bloglines account.

This does not make information gathering more useful for me as I do not follow any blogs. I would use Blogline for more financial and business information but not for social connecting reasons! I will continue to use my favorites on my computer for any interesting websites. Also too much information comes through on Bloglines! Bloglines did not always respond the way I thought it would.

Google

Google Universe is overwhelming - as are most of these social networking sites. How do people have the time to be so involved or are they just using specific products or services?

I found the "Trends" and the "News" service interesting in that you have very current information. "Trends" let you see what other people are interested in and the "News" is up to date by the minute. I would recommend these to others.

I tried "Google Scholar" and found some of the same searches as when I did a "Google" search. Not sure if I would count on "Google Scholar" to be very scholarly.

Facebook CPL 2.0

Networking with other people to share and connect to things that are important is the appeal of websites like Facebook. Individuals have the capacity to share much more broadly than they have ever had before.

Facebook and similar websites could involve into a serious platform that change peoples lives and the way we live. Discussions or political ideas as well as "target" marketing could be in the future.

Unfortunately, I find Facebook involves a large amount of personal time!
